Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
01
How do I know if my child needs to be evaluated for speech-language therapy?
Parents, pediatricians, or teachers typically notice a delay or irregularity in your child’s communication skills. If your child has a difficult time with their oral motor skills, pronunciation, understanding or using language, processing, or any other communication skills please contact our office for more information.
02
Does my child need a doctor's referral to be evaluated or receive speech-language therapy?
Your child does not need to be referred by a doctor to be evaluated or receive therapy at A to Z Speech Therapy. However, some insurance companies require a doctor's referral for reimbursement purposes.
03
Does A to Z Speech Therapy accept insurance?
A to Z Speech Therapy is a private pay practice, therefore we do not accept insurance. We are not affiliated with any insurance companies and are considered out-of-network providers. However, we do provide our families with itemized invoices for therapy services at the end of each month. These invoices include all codes needed for insurance reimbursement if you choose to submit them and if your insurance company offers out-of-network benefits.
How Does Therapy Work?
01
How long will it take for my child's speech-language issues to be resolved with therapy?
Every child's needs are different and we customize a plan of care for each child, so we cannot predetermine how long therapy will take. Therapists provide feedback at the end of each session and will assign exercises and homework. Families that work on the exercises and consistently attend weekly sessions typically have children who acquire and maintain skills faster. Lasting results take both time and practice.
03
Do therapists from A to Z Speech Therapy travel to schools or make home visits for therapy?
Depending on how close your child's school is to our office, and if the school will allow it, our therapists will travel to your child's school for therapy. There is an additional fee for school-based therapy sessions. We do not do home visits.
02
How often will my child have speech-language therapy sessions?
During your child's initial evaluation or consultation, our therapists will recommend the frequency and duration of therapy sessions appropriate for your child's needs. We offer 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions for once or multiple times per week. Please note that we do not provide 30-minute sessions once a week, as we have found it does not promote success.
04
Does A to Z Speech Therapy provide New York State Early Intervention services or therapy through the Department of Education?
A to Z Speech Therapy does not provide Early Intervention services through New York State, CPSE, CSE, or the Department of Education. While we do not accept payment through New York State, we do provide therapy for children under 3.
